Real Celebrity: OJ Simpson

Orenthal James Simpson
Born: July 9, 1947 in San Francisco
Current Residence: Lovelock Correctional Center in Lovelock, Nev.

Long before he was infamous, O.J. Simpson was as famous as any athlete in history, first as a Heisman Trophy-winning tailback for the USC Trojans, before then going on to make “The Juice” a household name despite spending most of his career with the lowly Buffalo Bills. His 143-yards-per-game average during his record 2,003-yards season of 1973 to this day remains unbroken, and earned him the NFL MVP Award. His on field fame led to acting roles in The Towering Inferno, Capricorn One, and as Officer Nordberg in The Naked Gun movies. But since the night of June 12, 1994, O.J. Simpson’s life has been one of public scorn. That’s the night his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her acquaintance, Ron Goldman, were found brutally murdered on the steps of her Los Angeles condo. A low-speed police chase soon made a TV star out of a “white Bronco,” but the allegedly suicidal man in the passenger seat eventually faced two counts of murder. His subsequent trial was the trail of the century in a century full of famous trials, with his legal Dream Team (including Kim and Khloe’s dad, Robert Kardashian) standing by his side at 10 a.m. on Oct. 3, 1995, when a jury found him not guilty. When the glove didn’t fit, they did acquit. But his courtroom win streak didn’t last, as 16 months later a civil jury in Santa Monica, Calif., found in favor of Ron Goldman’s family in a wrongful death lawsuit. Then on Oct. 3, 2008 — exactly 13 years after his murder acquittal —  a Las Vegas jury found him guilty of 12 felony charges including kidnapping and robbery after a dispute over sports memorabilia. As a result, the former No. 32 now wears ID No. 1027820 for the Nevada Dept. of Corrections.
